Book printing
Trim sizes and binding options.
The right trim depends on your genre, page count and how readers expect to hold the book. Here's how to pick.
Mass-market paperback (5″ × 8″) is the classic novel trim — pocketable, friendly, and what most fiction readers picture. It's a good fit for thrillers, romance and fantasy in trade paperback.
Trade paperback (5.5″ × 8.5″ or 6″ × 9″) is the workhorse trim for literary fiction, memoirs and non-fiction. Easier on the eyes at typical font sizes, sits well on a shelf, photographs nicely.
B-format (6″ × 9″) is the standard non-fiction trim — perfect for business books, biographies and any title where you want generous margins and room for callouts or pull-quotes.
Square trims (8.5″ × 8.5″) suit children's picture books, photography titles and gift books — anywhere imagery is doing as much work as the words.
