How to make a book — the actual process.
An honest, step-by-step walkthrough of how a manuscript becomes a printed book, from someone who does it every week.
Step 1 — Finish your manuscript. Get it as clean as you can on your own. A self-edited pass before professional editing saves you money and lets the editor focus on what matters.
Step 2 — Editing. At minimum, copy-editing. Ideally a developmental pass first if it's your first long book. This is the stage that determines whether the finished book reads well.
Step 3 — Design. Cover first, interior second. Cover decisions affect trim size; trim size affects interior; do them in this order.
Step 4 — ISBN registration. One ISBN per format (paperback, hardcover, eBook). We handle this as part of every package.
Step 5 — Print and proof. Order a single proof copy. Hold it. Read a chapter. Approve the proof before any larger run.
Step 6 — Distribute. KDP for Amazon, IngramSpark for everywhere else. Both can run in parallel.
Step 7 — Launch and sell. The pre-launch matters more than the launch day. Build your audience for at least three weeks before you go live.
